1. Do you accept insurance?
No. I do not bill insurance. I do provide my clients with a super bill they can submit to their insurance for reimbursement. I will also work with clients who do not receive reimbursement from their insurance on appropriate directing billing pricing. I offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments.
If you want to try to find out from your insurance what reimbursement may be like, common codes for assessment I use would be 90791, 96130, and 96131. For therapy sessions, the code is usually 90837 or 90846.
2. Do you do individual therapy with children?
No, I do not although I will offer assessment for children and appropriate referrals for ongoing therapy, if needed.
3. Do you see people outside of California?
I don't see individuals for therapy or assessments outside of California at this time but I do provide workshops, consultations and services for organizations outside of California.
4. How long is your waitlist?
My waitlist for an assessment and/or counseling/therapy services is approximately 6 months right now. I can sometimes offer a one-time consult on shorter timeframe while join the waitlist for ongoing services or an assessment. If you would like to consider a one-time consult, please contact me.
5. Do you see clients in-person or virtually?
I see clients in-person in an Oakland office at 6097 Claremont Ave (Rockridge neighborhood, near the border with Berkeley) half the week. The other half of the week, I offer telehealth options.
6. What is your approach to parent counseling?
I've been doing an 8-session model for parent counseling where we do 8 weekly sessions with a focus on understanding and responding to challenges coming up, collaborative problem solving approaches, navigating school and home life, etc. Clients can stop of course at any point before that, but we could go up to 8 sessions, and then think together about whether we should continue, stop, seek a different service, etc.
7. What are your fees?
You are entitled to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” detailing the anticipated costs of your medical and mental health treatments. As per regulations, healthcare providers are obligated to furnish uninsured patients or those not utilizing insurance with an estimate of charges for medical services, including psychotherapy. You have the privilege to request a Good Faith Estimate for the complete projected expenses of any non-emergency healthcare, encompassing psychotherapy, from your chosen healthcare provider or any alternative provider prior to scheduling a service. Should you encounter a bill exceeding your Good Faith Estimate by at least $400, you retain the right to contest it. It’s advisable to retain a copy or snapshot of your Good Faith Estimate for reference. For questions or details regarding your entitlement to a Good Faith Estimate, please visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
My rates are commensurate with other psychologists in the San Francisco Bay area. Please contact me at dralexklein@gmail.com to discuss my current fees.
